Alina Collins Maldonado is a multi-disciplinary artist from the DMV area. Her artistic purpose is to tell authentic stories through performance while providing the community a safe space to heal, connect, and gain a deeper understanding of one another. Original works include her one-woman shows, What to Expect When You’re La Virgen, developed as a Clarice Smith Artist in Residence 22', and No Salgas Con El Pelo Mojado, developed as a NextLOOK Artist 21'.

 

As an actor, she has performed in productions at The Lincoln Center, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Ford's Theatre, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Folger Theatre, 1st Stage, and GALA Hispanic Theater, among others.

As a director, she recently directed Imagination Stage’s touring production of Óyeme, the Beautiful, Theater Alliance’s devised production, A Chorus Within Her, and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and Spit Dat’s collaborative performance project, Homegrown.

 

Alina is a bilingual theater educator who has developed programs and workshops to help artists create and produce their work. She focuses on working with students from ESOL classes and diverse backgrounds. Alina has collaborated with various theaters and youth programs, including KIND Inc. (Kids In Need of Defense), GALA Hispanic Theater, Latin American Youth Center, Young Playwrights Theater, Shakespeare Theatre Company, and Imagination Stage.

Alina holds a B.A. in Theatre and a B.A. in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, from Virginia Commonwealth University. Alina is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association.
